Did you know? Brazil

The first student from Brazil to study at the University of Glasgow matriculated in 1811?

His name is to be found in various forms, but we will plump for the most complete form as provided by Addison: Ignacio Josep [Cadano] D’Araújo Vieira, the fourth son of Josephi Cadano d’Araújo Vieira, Esquire, from Rio de Janeiro. Igancio enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1811 for two years, attending Ethics and Professor George Jardine’s Logic class.

The next person from Brazil attended the University of Glasgow in 1837: Antero Jacques da Silva, the fourth son of Antonio a merchant in Brazil, studied in the Latin class of Professor William Ramsay.
